St. Marina the Monk

Accademia Gallery, Venice

The monastic habit, feminine features, and cross or crucifix are all parts of the iconography of St. Marina the Monk. Other images I have examined also include a child, but this work is older, so it may be that the child had not yet entered the iconography – or perhaps there just was not room for the child in this very narrow segment of a now-disassembled polyptych.
